Your Campus Card is your University ID – you need it to borrow books from the library, register your attendance, access certain buildings and facilities and also serves as proof that you are a student and can be used for free on-campus travel and student discounts in many shops and restaurants in the area. It’s best to keep it handy wherever you are on campus.
Below we've put together a few sections on what you'll need to know when it comes to your Campus Card.
As part of your enrolment process you should have been prompted to upload a photograph for your campus card.
However, if you have not uploaded a photograph you can upload one via MyPhoto. Once you log in you will be prompted to uploaded a photograph that will be used on your card. For guidance on what photographs are acceptable, please visit www.sunderland.ac.uk/campuscard.
Please note, if you upload a photograph that does not fit the guidelines you may be charged for a replacement card.
Once your card is ready to collect The Gateway Enquiries Team will raise an enquiry on Compass for you to let you know it's available.
This will send an email notification to your Student email account. Once you click onto the links within the email and sign in, you will be able to see which Enquiry Desk your card is located at as well as what ID you’ll need to bring to collect it.
Please note, if you do not collect your card within 30 days or fail to update The Gateway via Compass ,your card will be disposed of and as a result you will need to purchase a new card which costs £10.
If your card has expired or is due to expire soon and you are still a student with us, we will automatically produce a new card for you on the date of your current cards expiration.
Once your new card is ready, The Gateway Enquiries Team will raise an enquiry on Compass to let you know it is available to collect.
Please note, we are unable to produce a new card prior to the expiration of your current card.
Your Campus Card will come preprogramed with the access for every single building you need. However, if you experience any problems with your card for accessing buildings on Campus you will need to have your card re programmed by our Facilities Team.

Your card will only display your full legal name, we are unable to produce cards with a known as name or in any different order than your official, legal identification.
If you have recently changed your name, whether by marriage or deed poll, firstly you will need to inform the University. Please bring in your name change document to either Gateway Enquiry Desk. Once your name has been changed across University systems, the Gateway Team will order a new card for you free of charge. You will receive an enquiry via Compass once it is available for collection
Please note, if you do not have a legal document detailing your name change, we will not be able to change your details.
If you are transferring to a different course at the University, there is no need for you to obtain a new Campus Card. Your Campus Card will automatically be reprogrammed with your new course details.
If your new course has a longer duration than your previous course, we will issue a new card for you upon the expiration of your current card.
If you have lost your card, you will need to order a new one as soon as possible. A replacement campus card costs £10 and can be purchased via our online store.
Once you have placed your order, we will produce a new card for you and you will receive an enquiry via Compass to your student email account as soon as it's ready to collect and where you can collect it from.
Your Campus Card is now used for accessing printing services across each campus. Simply select the black and white or colour printer in the printer list and then release it from any printer at the University.
All you need to do is tap your card on the printers reader and it'll open up your account to release your print jobs. Your print jobs are saved for 24 hours, can be printed at any machine within the University and any cost is deducted from your Papercut account.
If you're experiencing any issues with your Campus Card you should firstly ensure that any timetabled sessions you attend are reported through the TDS Student Portal. You'll be able to report both absences and attendances through the portal.
You should then report any defects of your card to the Gateway Enquiry Desk who will be able to investigate the issues and resolve any problems you may have with your campus card.
You'll be able to Submit an Enquiry through Compass where the Gateway will then be able to follow up and advise accordingly, or if you're on campus you'll be able to visit wither of the Gateway Enquiry Desk locations:

Compass UoS App
It's now even easier to keep track of your enquiries, view our FAQs or book appointments via the Compass UoS mobile app. If you have a smartphone, simply download the Compass App from the App Store or Google Play. You'll receive handy notifications on any of your open enquiries and will always be able to contact us directly through the app itself.
You can also access the Compass directly through the UoS app. Simply look out for Compass on your menu.
- Students must use their Campus Card to record their attendance at every timetabled session. They do this by tapping their card against the fixed readers in teaching rooms.
- Students must attend all of the sessions on their timetable - at the time they are scheduled and in the room they are scheduled.
- If possible students should not swap groups - they should try wherever possible to attend the group session allocated on their timetable, if they attend a different session to the one on their timetable their swipe will be recorded but it will not be matched to their timetable and will not be counted towards your attendance %. If students do have good reason for changing group session (i.e. doctor's appointment, placement, interview etc) and the programme leader approves a group swap, students should submit an absence through the portal for the session they are missing - selecting the option 'Absence - attending alternative session' and completing the comments box with details of the date and time of the new session they will be attending - by doing this they will be given their attendance mark and their % attendance will not be reduced.
- Students must swipe into the room allocated on your timetable, they should not swipe into another room. If an academic moves rooms and he/she does not inform the timetabling team a students timetable will not be updated, although the students swipe will be recorded against the new room they've swiped into it will not match the room on their timetable and will not be counted towards their % attendance.
- Students should not swipe into class more than 10 minutes before the class is scheduled to start. If a student swipes any earlier their swipe will be recorded but it will not be matched to their timetable session and will not be counted towards their % attendance.
- If you are using a paper register this will not be inputted into the attendance monitoring system,students must also swipe their card at the reader.
- reporting an absence does not mean students will receive an attendance mark, students will still be marked absent from their session(s) during the absence period, however an absence mark will be recorded against session(s) so academic staff will know students have been in touch and reported they will not be in class. Absences will be taken into account when staff are reviewing attendance data and before sending any communications to students about non attendance.
- It is important when logging an absence that students use the correct absence reason codes.
