Canvas Basics and reVIEW
Schedule:2 hour sessions.
Description:

Getting to know the VLE. Perfect for new academics or staff looking to use Canvas and reVIEW for the first time.

This session will cover following:

Canvas:

  • Access and Navigation

  • Feature Overview

  • Student Views

  • Settings and Communications

  • Guides and Support

  • Content creation and organisation

  • Embedding Media 

reVIEW:

  • Introduction to reVIEW (powered by Panopto)

  • Accessing reVIEW through Canvas

  • Using the Create Button (and how to download the recorder )

  • How to make a recording video, audio, powerpoint, and screen-capture

  • Embedding reVIEW videos in other areas of your Canvas course 

  • Uploading existing videos to Canvas

  • Student recording and Assignment Folders 

  • Viewer features including search, notes, variable speed playback 

  • Overview of the basic video editor 

  • How to view analytics and statistics within reVIEW

Schedule:2 hour sessions.
Description:

Understanding the assignment tools within Canvas. This session will cover the following:

 

  • Setting up an assignment in Canvas.
  • Marking using the Canvas SpeedGrader tool.
  • Setting up an assignment in Canvas with Turnitin enabled.
  • Marking using Turnitin Feedback Studio.

(Academics will have access to computers and Canvas throughout this session)

Quizzes and Surveys
Schedule:2 hour sessions.
Description:

Understanding the quiz/survey tool within Canvas. This session will cover the following:

  • Creating a quiz in Canvas.
  • Exploring the different question types of a quiz.
  • Creating a survey in Canvas.
  • Exploring the different question types of a survey.
  • Modifying the standard module feedback form within Canvas modules.

Open Educational Resources (OER)
Schedule:1 hour session.
Description:

OERs, Open Education Repositories, are collections of educational resources and course materials which have been freely shared for reuse within the education community.

These resources can range from audio and video resources to entire programmes of study. YouTube, for example, could be considered an OER as a significant number of videos on the service are educational. Dedicated OERs like Canvas Commons however, will typically only be accessed by educators and the content will be curated for quality and tagged with appropriate labels indicating subject and intended audience.

This session will cover the following:

  • Google Image Search
  • Image Manipulation
  • Other OERs and Resources
