NOTES OF GUIDANCE ON THE COMPLETION OF FORM RCREV1

 

This application should be completed electronically and at a minimum of 10 pitch typeface.

 

Applicants and their supervisors are expected to have read the University's Regulations for the Award of Master/Doctor of Philosophy before completing this form.  Students are expected to complete the form in conjunction with their supervisory team. 

 

Guidance is given concerning the completion of certain sections of this form in the notes that follow:

 

(a)Section 2 - Sufficient information must be given to enable the Postgraduate Research Degrees Sub-committee (Sub-Group) to assess the suitability of the programme as a training in research methods leading to the award of a research degree.   Please complete all appropriate sections.

 

(b)     Where permission is sought to present a thesis accompanied by material in other than written form, this must be stated explicitly in a covering letter (Regulations 2.6 and 2.7 respectively refer).  Where the proposed programme forms part of a group project this must be clearly stated (regulation 2.9 refers).

(d)Section 3 – Please record information on all appropriate research training elements listed.

 

3.1 Postgraduate Research Student Development Programme there are two compulsory parts to the programme by the time this form is completed the 1st part should have been attended – Induction.

3.2  Faculty Research Seminars – Your supervisory team will be able to provide information on research seminars being held in your subject area.

3.3  “Preparing to Teach”course – contact Dr Mark Proctor to attend this course or visit the MPhil/PhD module in Canvas.  If you wish to teach at the University and you do not currently hold a teaching qualification, it is compulsory to complete this course.

3.4The Personal Development Plan pro-forma (TNA) should be completed at the beginning of your research degree programme then annually thereafter.  The update of the plan will be reviewed every 12 months and will be monitored as part of your  Annual Monitoring Review.  A copy of the PDP can be obtained from Canvas in the MPhil/PhD Research Module
