5.            RECOMMENDATION

 

Note 1:  If the examiners recommendations are not in agreement, a separate form RCPhD should be completed by each individual examiner to evidence that a detailed assessment of the thesis has been carried out and to clarify the differences in the judgements made.

Note 2:Details of corrections/amendments to the thesis should be written in section 6.   It is expected that the candidate should normally complete corrections within 3 months of the Postgraduate Research Degrees Sub-committee approval and amendments within 6 months.

 

 
5.3            REFERRAL FOR PHD

That the candidate be permitted to re-submit for the degree of PhD and be re-examined as follows (*as specified by the Examiners)

(i)         * the thesis must be revised and if deemed satisfactory by the Examiners, the candidate

will be exempt from further examination, oral or otherwise;

 

(ii)* the thesis must be revised and the candidate must undergo a further oral or alternative

examination;

 

Note 3:Where the examiners recommend that the candidate should re-submit for PhD, a list of deficiencies of the thesis should be detailed in section 6.  The revised thesis must be submitted for re-examination within one year of the Postgraduate Research Degrees Sub-committee approval.

 

 

5.4a          OFFER AWARD OF MPhil - CONDITIONAL PASS – (Corrections) – NOT APPLICABLE TO PHD BY EXISTING PUBLISHED OR CREATIVE WORKS CANDIDATE

 

o           That the candidate meets the criteria for the award of MPhil but not those of PhD, therefore the degree of MPhil should be granted subject to corrections being made to the thesis to the satisfaction of the internal examiner (see regulation 10.4a)

 

5.4b          OFFER AWARD OF MPhil - CONDITIONAL PASS – (Amendments)  – NOT APPLICABLE TO PHD BY EXISTING PUBLISHED OR CREATIVE WORKS CANDIDATE

 

oThat the candidate meets the criteria for the award of MPhil but not those of PhD, therefore, the degree of MPhil should be granted subject to amendments being made to the thesis to the satisfaction of the:

Note 4:  Although an MPhil can be offered to a candidate, the candidate has the right to decline this offer and choose Referral for PhD.

5.5            OFFER REFERRAL FOR MPHIL – NOT APPLICABLE TO PHD BY EXISTING PUBLISHED OR CREATIVE WORKS CANDIDATE

 

That the candidate be permitted to re-submit for the degree of MPhil and be re-examined as follows (*as specified by the Examiners)

(i)         * the thesis must be revised and if deemed satisfactory by the Examiners, the candidate

will be exempt from further examination, oral or otherwise;

 

(ii)* the thesis must be revised and the candidate must undergo a further oral or alternative

examination;
