Appendix 1

Undergraduate programme change – Unistats declaration

If this form is required (see notes below) it should be sent to Academic Registry by the Faculty as soon as the programme change request is agreed.

When a programme which requires a Unistats declaration (see note below) undergoes change we need to ensure that the pattern of teaching/learning and assessment which the Unistats declaration gives remains accurate. Many changes will not significantly affect the pattern of modes of teaching/learning and assessment which students experience and any changes will be picked up by the Unistats declaration in due course as the programme changes are applied and new / revised modules are selected by the students. However there will also be situations in which the intention of the change(s) to the programme is to alter the way in which contact time is spent and/or students are assessed. In this case the Unistats declaration will be affected and therefore the current Unistats data needs to be over-ridden to reflect the pattern which future students will experience.

For example:

  • All the Stage 1 options are revised so that they are assessed by coursework instead of an exam. This will affect the modes of assessment showing for Stage 1.
  • Stage 2 already includes a small element of placement within a core module and this is reflected in the Diploma learning outcomes. However changes to the programme increase the placement element by including a similar approach in two other core modules. This will affect the modes of teaching/learning showing for Stage 2.
  • The Stage 3 project, which is compulsory, is changed from a report (only) (which counts as coursework) to a report and presentation (the latter counts as ‘practical’ assessment). This will affect the modes of assessment showing for Stage 3.
  • A generic programme is split into three programme routes. The learning outcomes are retained but re-allocated between the routes. A Unistats declaration form is required for each route.
  • Three programme routes are brought together under a single programme. The learning outcomes are retained from the original routes. A new Unistats declaration form will be needed for the new programme structure.
  • The programme title is changed. A new Unistats declaration form will be needed under the new title.

Note:

The Unistats declaration currently applies to undergraduate programmes only and does not apply to the following:

  • Programmes of 120 credits or less (including top-ups)
  • ‘Closed’ courses
  • Programmes of one year’s full-time duration even if they have more than 120 credits
  • Programmes which will be delivered only to overseas students
  • Postgraduate programmes

If in doubt please contact Planning and Management Information (Planning MI) or Academic Registrar for advice.

*list modules in this column until the total module value for the Stage, including the core modules, reaches 120. (For example if there are 60 credits of core modules you need to add options to the value of a further 60 credits. If the module split means that the final option added brings the total to more than 120 that is acceptable and will be adjusted pro rata to 120 for Unistats.)

Action by Academic Registry:

  • review Unistats declaration
  • discuss with Faculty if necessary
  • forward to Planning MI.

[1] If the same change applies to more than one module, list all the modules on the one form but submit separate descriptors

[2] Change of a Title, level or number of credits requires a new module to be created

[3]  For a new module - email Quality Support (QS) with Title, Subject, Level & Credit value to receive code

For a module modification - use existing code

[4]  Modification - Use existing title

[5] If this is a replacement module add the code and title

[7] Updated Programme Specifications are required to supply to Marketing for uploading on the University Website.  SITS forms are also required to inform Planning MI of the change on SITS

[8] Email to QS with Title, Subject, Level & Credit value to receive code

[9] To check code, https://www.hesa.ac.uk/innovation/hecos.

[10] Confirmation and evidence should be provided that External Examiner approval has been obtained where a module contributes to the final award of a qualification (e.g. Levels 4 and 5 modules on a Foundation Degree and Levels 5 and 6 for an Honours Degree must have External Examiner approval).

[11] Insert date the outcome(s) was sent to the relevant Board/Committee Officer for reporting

[12] If the TLA has changed certain matrices will need updated

[13] As above, TLA may change the information on the SITS form.
