Heartbleed

You may have heard from news reports over the last 48 hours, a new computer vulnerability, known as ‘Heartbleed’ has been uncovered.  The University of Sunderland takes the security of its computer systems and the information stored on them extremely seriously and it wants to assure its members, both staff and student, that the University IT Systems are “not” affected by this vulnerability.  As news reports and IT Security Industry specialists are reporting, this is a vulnerability that has the potential for people with malicious intent to obtain username/passwords and other types of secure business information stored on unprotected websites. It is important to understand that not all organisations are affected by this vulnerability, and companies such as Google and Amazon have already released guidance on what to do if you have an account with them. 

The University advises that if you have concerns over the security of other online services you use, please contact those companies and organisations directly to obtain guidance on how to secure your accounts with them.

Fix IT Zone - Opening Hours

The Fix IT Zone Desk in Murray Library will close on Friday 11th April at 2 p.m. and will re-open on Wednesday 23rd April at 10 am.
