Title.

Magical Realism and Northern Identity

Thesis Outline.

A split creative and critical thesis, it includes an experimental novella and short story combination, set in and around the Durham area of North-East England and written in the magical realist style, and a critical analysis of the writing praxis involved in created the creative work, focusing on the incorporation of regional elements through magical realism and the novella/short story structural relationship.

Biography.

Greg was born and raised in the North East of England. He studied English and Creative Writing at the University of Sunderland, during which time he was President of the Creative Writing Society for a number of years. He later went on to study a Masters in Creative Writing at Newcastle University. In 2017, he co-founded Bandit Fiction, a not-for-profit digital publishing company with the goal of offering additional opportunities to new and emerging writers

Research Activities.

My main interests are in magical realism, fairy tales, and folklore, but I am also interested in creative writing theory, children's fiction, and the representation of social class and gender roles in literature.
